Chiang Mai

Cycling distance up to: 25km Difficulty: Easy

Today, meet at 13:00 at the meeting point (TBA) or hotel in Chiang Mai area for a bike fitting and safety briefing with the guide. Then, choose to either discover Chiang Mai or go for a warm up ride around the area.

Overnight in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai - Lampang

Cycling distance up to: 120km Difficulty: Medium

After this morning’s breakfast, leave the busy roads of Chiang Mai and head towards Lampang on the old highway – a tree lined boulevard that is a real pleasure to ride along. The terrain is rolling on this section of the ride, and just passing the halfway point, there is a longish climb that gets quite steep at the end.

Lampang is called the cowboy town because there are still horse-drawn carriages as a means of transportation. On the way, stop and visit the Elephant Camp and one of the oldest and most religious Chedis in Thailand — Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, built around 1044.

Overnight in Lampang.

Lampang - Uttaradit

Cycling distance up to: 145km Difficulty: Hard

Today’s ride is tougher as there are some hills to climb. We have three sets of hills and lots of undulating countryside. Some of the hills get steep towards the end so take it easy. The support vehicle will always be nearby to provide assistance if needed. Pass through teak forests the reclining Buddha and some beautiful temples. Arrive what truly provincial Thailand where there are not many tourists around.

Overnight in Uttaradit.

Uttaradit - Sukhothai

Cycling distance up to: 90 km Difficulty: Medium

Today, head off-the-beaten track while riding along some of the most secluded and beautiful roads in Thailand. The canopy of palm trees provide some natural shade from the tropical sun.

Pass by lush green paddy fields and many villages and head towards the first capital of Thailand, Sukhothai. The 13th century reign is generally viewed as the golden age of Siam due to the fact that its influence spread west as far as Myanmar, east as far as Cambodia and south down into Malaysia.

Overnight in Sukhothai.

Sukhothai – Kamphaeng Phet

Cycling distance up to: 85km Difficulty: Medium

Kamphaeng Phet, also known as ‘Diamond Wall City’ was a military fortress used to help defend Sukhothai from invading armies. The moss and flower covered ruins give it a quality that is not seen in the more popular and restored neighbouring Sukhothai. There is plenty of time to visit the sites either by foot or by bicycle.

The ride to Kamphaeng Phet is on pleasant country roads with plenty of activities and sceneries along the way.

Overnight in Kamphaeng Phet.

Kamphaeng Phet – Nakhon Sawan

Cycling distance up to: 165km Difficulty: Hard

Today, head out into the heartlands of Thailand towards Nakhon Sawan. Along the way, observe the many rice paddies that line the countryside of Thailand. Look out for water buffaloes working the fields and ducks taking a dip in the rice fields.

This is an area of Thailand which is not visited by many tourists. Meet friendly locals along the way who will be surprised that the bike ride was all the way from Chiang Mai.

Overnight at a charming resort surrounded by lily plants in Nakhon Sawan.

Nakhon Sawan – Singburi - Ayutthaya

Cycling distance up to: 110km Difficulty: Hard

Today, we really start to feel we are approaching Bangkok as we see signs of industrialization, but there are still plenty of open spaces with fields as well as small towns and villages along the way.

The ride is again on back roads that pass through many small towns. Don’t forget to look up and wonder at the 60-foot long reclining Buddha in Ang Thong. Today, we reach the old Siamese capitol of Ayutthaya – the centre of old Siam for over 400 years until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. Also as a UNESCO world heritage site, this historical park boasts some spectacular temples that are best visited by bicycle in which is our next day program.

The ride will continue via the Ke Ga Cape near Ta Kou National Reserve, arriving in the picturesque beach village of Mui Ne in the late afternoon. Mui Ne is famous for its enormous red and white sand dunes. With constant ocean winds sculpting the white dunes, these Sahara-esque formations produce quite the unique visit in town!

Overnight in Phan Thiet

Phan Thiet – Dalat

Transfer: 1.5 hours Cycling distance up to: 95km Difficulty: Hard

Depart Mui Ne for the highland town of Dalat, located at 1500m above sea level. Today marks one of the more challenging cycling days, climbing from the ocean to the mountains. Ride via the town of Di Linh before transferring the last 60kms in a private vehicle to Dalat. Dalat is quite different from anywhere else in Vietnam, giving off a unique ambiance of the French Alps in springtime.

Overnight in Dalat

Da Lat – Phan Rang – 105km

Cycling distance up to: 105km Difficulty: Hard

In the morning, set off from Dalat for a cycle through the beautiful lush-green Ngoan Muc Pass before reaching the Cham Towers. Today's ride is predominantly downhill through pine forests and paddy fields, with a descent of nearly 1,500m from Dalat to the Po Klong Garai Cham Towers (near the coastal town of Phan Rang.) Built in the 13th century, these four brick towers (Shiva temples from the Cham Kingdom) are among some of the best-preserved in Vietnam.

Overnight in Phan Rang

Phan Rang – Nha Trang – 120km

Cycling distance up to: 120km Difficulty: Hard

Today, cycle towards Nha Trang, arguably the most beautiful beach in the country, with white sand beaches and clear blue seas.  Enjoy breathtaking views of the undeveloped coast with an equally stunning descent. There is some entirely unique plant life in this arid region, with a unique array of cacti mixed into the countryside. The road rolls on for 30 km, revealing picturesque white sand beaches and turquoise waters unfurling to the fishing hamlet of Vinh Hai. Continue riding on the very edge of the coast, beyond huge granite rocks balancing in Nui Chua National Park, ultimately leading to Nha Trang in the late afternoon. Arrive in time to enjoy a beautiful sunset at the beach.
