Sukhothai Arrival

Sukhothai Airport – Le Charme (41.8 km): 37 min Sukhothai Airport – The Legendha (40.6 km): 36 min

Upon arrival at Sukhothai Airport, be met with the guide and be transferred to Sukhothai Hotel. Check in at the hotel then relax and freshen up before going to explore the ancient royal city of Sukhothai.

In the late afternoon, before sunset, visit Sukhothai Historical Park which was once a walled city surrounded by a moat, the park contains almost 200 ruined chedis in remarkable conditions. Hop on an electric tuk tuk to explore the main sites in the park. These include, Wat Sri Sawai, Wat Sra Sri, Wat Trapang Ngoen, and Wat Mahathat. Another highlight not to be missed is Wat Sri Chum where an enormous Buddha lays in a sitting position.

Sukhothai

Sukhothai – Ban Na Ton Chan (76.9 km): 1.17 hr

After breakfast at the hotel, embark on a fun workshop for making a personal clay amulet Buddha at Baan Phra Phim, a learning center about the amulets of Buddha from the old times. Meet the local expert, Mr. Kob, who will go over the simple making process as well as share some interesting stories about the center and the Buddhas. Then, visit the museum where there  are fun activities from the past such as shooting an arrow and making fire from feldspar. The workshop takes approx. 1.5 hours.

Following the workshop, head out of Sukhothai up north towards the district of Si Satchanalai. Make a visit to a local community, Ban Na Thon Chan, the 2012 PATA Gold Award Winning Project in the heritage and culture category in Si Satchanalai District.  Established over 200 years ago, Ban Na Thon Chan is a local community-based tourism effort offering the balance of natural and cultural heritage to most of visitors. Most villagers are descendants of the ancient Lanna kingdom, and everyday’s life is based on their daily tasks and customs while conserving their local heritage.

Arrive at the village just in time for a local Sukhothai lunch. After lunch, travel as locals normally do in a local transport, called e-tan. Tour around the village, stop at a few houses that carry out different craft such as furniture making, wooden dolls and traditional desserts. Then, walk through a beautiful green rice paddy field and enjoy the nature and scenery.

Breakfast at the hotel. Spend the morning at leisure or choose to enjoy an optional activity.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITY: Suthep Sangkhalok Making

Another signature of Sukhothai is the signature Ceramic Celadon bowl! Join in on a workshop of painting a personal celadon at Suthep Sangkhalok and walk through the factory to learn how the bowls have been produced. Meet the local instructor who will provide a briefing on how to design these bowls, using different colours provided.

Price: THB 610.- per person

In the afternoon, indulge in the relaxed atmosphere of the rice field at Baan Ma Kwid Café, a lovely café with nice decoration in Northern Thai style. Here, browse through a wide collection of Thai silks and Thai craft collectibles.

Later in the afternoon, experience any of the following activities to choose from:  

Option A

Sunset Food Trail by bicycle

Explore Sukhothai’s tranquil countryside and rustic villages on two wheels at twilight. Then savour the delicacies of Sukhothai’s best local eateries. Cycle to rice paddy fields to hear the sounds of nature and watch farmers at work, arrive deep into a village and experience local traditions and ways of life. (Note: The activity with the locals depend on the time and season of the year)

For dinner, hop between restaurants and street food vendors, savouring Sukhothai’s best dishes and delicious traditional desserts. Then, return to the hotel with a happy tummy at the end of the tour.

Option B

Cook and Eat with Auntie Naa

Learn to make a few Thai dishes with Miss Na in her cozy home set in a lovely garden. Miss Na is a sweet Sukhothai-born lady. She is a talented chef who follows traditional Sukhothai recipes passed down for generations and adds her very own inventions and twists to them. Miss Na loves to use local ingredients such as herbs and vegetables typical to Central Thailand’s home gardens. As she would typically say: ‘The freshest ingredients always hit the spot!’ (Note: Maximum of 12 pax for the cooking class.)
