Nan Arrival

Nan Airport – Wat Phumin (4.3 km): 15 min Wat Phu Min – Wat Sri Moung Kol (54.1 km): 1 hr Wat Sri Moung Kol – Tai Lue Café (12.1 km): 18 min Tai Lue Café - Cocoa Valley Resort (15.8 km): 10 min

Upon arrival in Nan, meet the local English speaking guide and start exploring the recent place that is a ‘Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism’ with the concept of pushing ‘Low Carbon Tourism in Nan’. (Please note: it’s suggested to take a morning flight to Nan.)

Stop at Wat Phumin, the most interesting temple in town which is an ancient royal temple over 400 years old. See the famous mural painting ‘The Whispering of Love’ on the temple’s wall, also known locally as “Poo Man Ya Man”.  Then continue to Wat Baan Phra Kerd for a Tung Workshop. Tung means flag in Lanna. Partake in the workshop to make a Tung and give it to the monk for blessings later on.

Then, drive to visit the Noble House or Hong Chao Fongkham (Closed on Mon and Tue). A teak house with a high basement, this was once owned by Chao Fongkham, who was a descendent of Chao Anataworarithidej, the 62nd Lord of Nan. The house now serves as a museum, housing silverware, lace, water-line fabrics and ornaments, which indicate the prosperity of Muang Nan during those days.

Lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, head to Pua, en route stop at Wat Sri Mong Khol where there is a chance to see a nice view of rice fields against the background of mountains. Then, make a stop at the Thai Architecture Museum.

En route visit Tai Lue Café, the endless greenery of the rice fields makes this café very special for the nature lovers. Get here before sunset time for the best weather and experience.

Continue driving to Cocoa Valley Resort for the night’s stay.   

Overnight in Pua.

Pua – Boklua

Cocoa Valley Resort – Tai Lue village (4.3 km): 10 min Tai Lue village - Doi Phuka Moutain (31.4 km): 50 min Doi Phuka Moutain – Boklua (20.7 km): 35 min

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and be met by a local guide for the transfer to the organic cocoa farm. Upon arrival, walk through the farm and be introduced to the story of the farm and cocoa trees. Get to taste fresh raw cocoa from the trees and see the process of selecting organic, pure cocoa seeds from the local expert. Then it’s time to partake in a chocolate workshop using the dark cocoa seeds as a main ingredient. Later, receive a package of the personally made chocolate as a souvenir to bring home.

Following the workshop, have a delicious lunch in Khantoke style at Tai Lue Village.

After lunch, drive up to the mountain of Doi Phuka, actually well-known for the famous blooming pink Phuka flowers and breathtaking panoramic views of the mountain. Proceed next to Boklua district, a small community nestled in the mountain which is famous for producing the unique tasting rock salt sourced from the nearby mountain. Visit a small factory to see the process.

Check-in and spend the rest of the day free at leisure.

Boklua

Oun I Mang – Khun Nan National park (3.4 km): 6 min

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive up to Khun Nan National park to freshen up this morning with a gorgeous view. Here, start soft trekking through the green forest to visit Sapan Waterfall, a medium-sized waterfall located in Khun Nan National park which has 3 steps and in each step are not too high. Reach the highest step approx. 3 km. and walk down to lowest to Ban Sapan, a lovely village surrounded by natural mountains and flowing rivers. During the rainy season, be around in this green zone and soak up the beauty of green rice fields. 

Spend the afternoon free at leisure.

For tonight’s dinner, the BBQ dinner is set up under the stars at Oun I Mang Resort, a small resort right by a small stream, close to beautiful nature. (Note: BBQ dinner is subject to the weather conditions, especially during the rainy season.)

Overnight in Boklua.

Boklua - Nan Departure

Boklua - Nan Airport (86.3 km): 1.50 hr

Breakfast at the hotel. Check-out and be transferred to Nan Airport. Continue to Nan Airport for the onward flight.
