Itinerary

1

Pakse - Champassak - Wat Phou

Pakse – Champasak by boat (30 km): 1.5 hour

In the early morning, depart from Pakse heading south aboard a local longtail riverboat to Champasak in time for a riverside lunch.

After lunch enjoy a guided tour of the 10th century pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Phou.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, Wat Phou is a spectacular pre-Angkorian temple that sits amidst the rice fields and waterways of southern Laos. The temple served as the most important economic and political centre of the region and still is one of the Lao people’s most revered temples.

After the tour, stop in Champasak to see some beautiful examples of French colonial architecture.

Return to the boat for a relaxing cruise down-river, enjoying a tropical sunset on the deck. Dinner is served on board, while the boat docks for the night alongside a remote Lao village.

Overnight on board

Houay Tomo - Oum Muang - Khong Island

Champasak – Houay Tomo – 4000 islands by boat (100 km): 6 hours

Breakfast is served on board while the boat cruises towards Houay Tomo, home to the spectacular hidden forest temple of Oum Muang.

Re-board the boat for lunch, while leisurely cruising further south to the “4,000 islands”. Stop and visit Ban Dua Tae, a traditional Lao Village before continuing to Khong Island.

The 4,000 islands, also known as “Siphandon” in Lao language, are a unique, breathtaking area along the Laos/Cambodian border stretching for over 14 km.

After exploring the islands, enjoy dinner and an overnight on board.

3

Khong Island - Khone Phapheng - Pakse

Khong Island – Khone Phapheng by boat (25 km): 2 hours Khone Phapheng – Pakse (130 km): 1,5 hour

Breakfast is served on the deck, while cruising to the small village of Ban Veuthong. Disembark here and board a smaller longtail boat for the trip to Khone Island.

Don Det and Don Khone are two laid back islands near the border of Strung Treng Province in Cambodia.

The islands played an important role during the French Colonial rule as they linked Laos to Cambodia and Southern Vietnam. To overpass the waterfalls, a railway and bridge were built, which today act as the perfect place to relax and soak in the surrounding views.

Take a longtail boat back to the mainland for lunch amidst the French colonial houses and former customs post. After lunch, take a minivan to the Khone Phapheng waterfall, close to the Cambodian border. The local community has built a wooden hut to view these stunning falls.

After the visit, travel 2 hours overland back to Pakse, arriving in the afternoon at around 15:00.
