Itinerary

1

Houay Xay – Pakbeng

Begin the experience at the Thai immigration office before 08:00. After crossing the Lao border of Houay Xay, one of our representatives will be waiting to provide transport to the pier. Upon arrival, board the Luang Say Cruise vessel for the three-day trip to Luang Prabang. Overnight stops will be made in Pakbeng and at the Kamu Lodge.

During the first half of the day, a stop will be made to visit a local ethnic village. Shortly thereafter, a buffet lunch will be served on board the boat while cruising along the Mekong River.

Arrive into the town of Pakbeng in the late afternoon. Halfway between Houay Xay and Luang Prabang, this small, dynamic town is lined with wooden houses along a steep street on the hillside. Depending on the river's current, the boat may reach Pakbeng in time to catch a beautiful sunset over the Mekong.

Overnight in Pakbeng

2

Pakbeng – Kamu Lodge

This morning enjoy breakfast at the hotel before continuing the river cruise downstream to Kamu Lodge. A stop will be made at Ban Baw, a local village known for its production of traditional rice alcohol.

Lunch will be served onboard.

Arrive at Kamu Lodge around 14:00. The Kamu Lodge features 20 private canvas tents. Faithful to local style, each tent is protected from the elements by a thatched roof, allowing the Lodge’s grounds to harmoniously blend with surrounding nature. Tents are decorated with bamboo and wooden furniture and feature private attached bathrooms.

This afternoon, participate in a variety of locally inspired activities:

  • Rice planting and harvesting in surrounding rice fields
  • Gold panning (January to June) in the Mekong
  • Traditional fishing techniques in the Mekong
  • Local village visit and encounters

Dinner and overnight at Kamu Lodge

Kamu Lodge – Pak Ou Caves – Luang Prabang

After enjoying breakfast at the lodge, spend the rest of the morning at leisure until check out (10:30). After lunch at the Lodge, the boat will depart around 14:00 for the cruise down to Luang Prabang.

On the way to Luang Prabang, stop at the famous Pak Ou Caves. Locally referred to as Tam Ting, these two caves are carved out of towering limestone cliffs and contain thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues.

Arrive into Luang Prabang around 17:00.
