Kuching – Batang Ai

Kuching – Batang Ai Jetty (260km): 4h30min Batang Ai – Mengkak Longhouse 60 min

This morning at 09:00, depart Kuching by van for a 4.5 hours leisure drive to the Batang Ai Jetty. The journey passes through scenic countryside of rice fields, rubber, cocoa, pepper and oil palm plantations, which intermingle with lush tropical rainforest, rivers and mountain ranges. 

Lunch at a local restaurant.

Upon arrival at the river jetty, proceed by motorised longboat to the resort. Located 110 miles southeast of Kuching, the remote Batang Ai National Park is home to a variety of wildlife. Wildlife aside most visitors come here to encounter the fascinating indigenous tribes - having the opportunity to meet the Iban people in one of their traditional longhouses is a highlight for many. The Iban people have a fascinating history; once known to be the most fearsome pirates and headhunters. Today they live harmoniously as farmers and their daily activities include fishing and hunting in the surrounding jungle. Proceed to the longhouse for a warm welcomes tour the longhouse, watch the natives at work such as making mats, baskets, handicrafts and mending fish nets. Join the natives in their daily chores, like feeding their livestock, washing clothes and enjoy a swim in the floating swimming pool.

After dinner, socialise with the longhouse dwellers, witness cultural performances and presentation of gifts before retiring for the night.

Batang Ai - Simanggang Town

Mengkak Longhouse – Batang Ai Jetty 60 min Batang Ai Jetty - Simanggang (90km): 1h30min

Breakfast.

After breakfast, witness cock-fighting, blowpipe demonstration, proceed by trekking through the forest to learn more about the forest privy and making a few stops to collect jungle produce.   Continue trekking to reach a nice spot at the lake for a native style picnic-lunch.  Relax or swim in the lake.   Depart by longboat to the Batang Ai Jetty, then by van / coach to Simanggang Town, proceed to visit Fort Alice and transfer to Seri Simanggang.

Simanggang Town - Kuching

Simanggang – Semenggoh 180km (3h) Semenggoh – Kuching town 22km (40min)

At 10:00hrs, depart Kuching with lunch en route at Ranchang Pool Cafeteria before proceeding to visit Semonggoh Wildlife Center.  Set up in 1975, this 740 hectare of virgin forest is home to Orangutans, honey bears, hornbills, porcupines, storks, eagles, barking deer and monkeys.  Most of these animals were rescued from captivity and are being rehabilitated here in their natural surroundings.   This tour provides an opportunity of a lifetime to observe how the Orangutans are being rehabilitated and trained to fend for themselves before being released into the wild. 

Transfer to the hotel (not included ) / airport.
