Itinerary

Lahad Datu – Danum Valley

Transfer from Lahad Datu Airport to Borneo Rainforest Lodge by 4WD (100KM): 3hrs (bumpy unsealed road)

(Recommended flight schedule: MH3010 BKI LDU 06:05 07:05)

On arrival, be met and greeted at Lahad Datu Airport and proceed for registration and briefing.

Depart from Lahad Datu for a private overland transfer by 4WD into the thick virgin rainforest area of Danum Valley – one of the world’s most complex ecosystems. The first 30 km of this journey are on paved roads while the remaining 60 km are on a gravel road which gives a bumpy but interesting ride.

Arrive at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge at noon and check-in. Choose to relax or a walk along the trails and the 130-metre-tall, 300-metre-long canopy walk, high up in the 130-million-year-old rainforest humming with jungle sounds.

After dinner, board one of the open-top 4WD vehicles for an exhilarating wildlife night tour. Accompanied by a local guide with a spotlight, spot a range of nocturnal animals that inhabit reserve, from samba deer to civet cats, leopards, and a stunning array of insects ad frogs.

Afterwards, return to the chalet.

Danum Valley

Optional Activities: Early Morning Jungle Trek: Approximately 3hrs Afternoon Jungle Trek: Approximately 2 hrs Night Walk: Approximately 1.5hrs

Wake up to the jungle’s cacophony of sounds ranging from birds to primates, such as the gibbons. Taking a packed breakfast, travel to a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial Site, known as “Coffin Cliff”, along the 2.6km Viewpoint Trail. At the end of the trail, be rewarded with spectacular views over an ocean-like million-year-old jungle – a truly spectacular sight. The return journey includes a trip to the waterfalls!

Return to the resort for lunch.

The rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure. There is a range of optional activities available, such as private trekking, tubing on the Danum River and specialised guided tours. There is also a series of tracks leading around the Canopy Walk that are free to be discover at will.

This evening, venture into the jungle on foot with a local guide. Take a quiet trek in the jungle revealing a stunning array of wildlife and the variety and size of the many insects that flourish in the evening hours.

Borneo Rainforest Lodge - Lahad Datu

Transfer Borneo Rainforest Lodge to Lahad Datu by 4WD (100KM): 3hrs (bumpy unsealed road)

Have breakfast and spend the morning at leisure.

After lunch, check out and transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for onward flight to Kota Kinabalu.
