Itinerary

Arrival - Singapore River and dinner

Arrive at the airport and be transferred to the hotel of choice.

This evening, be picked up at 19:00 at the hotel with the guide and driver and transferred to Singapore River for an evening spent along the vital waterway of Singapore. 

Cruise down the Singapore River in a traditional bumboat to see the legacy of Singapore's history. This is the best way to see the pivotal role the river played in Singapore's history as a port town. The cruise passes godowns and old shophouses, that now stands as a silent reminder of its humble past. Cruise past old colonial buildings contrasted with imposing modern skyscrapers. Guarding the river mouth see the majestic water-spouting Merlion - a mythological half-lion, half-fish creature a successful symbol of Singapore's tourism industry.

End the tour with a seafood dinner along the riverside. Savour an authentic dish of chili crab served with mantou (fried Chinese buns), a local favourite and a must-have in Singapore! 

Choose to stay around the area to explore Singapore’s glittering nightlife or be transferred back to the hotel.

Kampong Glam - Little India - Chinatown

This morning at 10:00 be picked up by the guide and hop on the nearest MRT or bus stop and travel to  Kampong Glam to learn and understand more about the Malay culture. Take a walk in Arab Street to view the magnificent Sultan Mosque. Stroll along the area to see the different shops selling traditional Arab-Muslim food and merchandises.

Stop for a taste of the local teh tarik  - a sweetened tea drink made with condensed or evaporated milk. milk. Traditionally the tea is tarik'ed (pulled) by successive pouring from one container/cup to another. With some luck, get to watch a teh tarik demonstration.

Next, hop onto a trishaw, a traditional mode of transportation back in the olden days. Take a trishaw tour through BugisLittle India, the heartland of Indian communities. Take in the many colours and exotic scents of spices while riding pass the streets. (Note: 1 Trishaw 2 pax)

Hop off the trishaw for a light snack in Little India. Savour the local favourite roti prata, a south Indian flat bread made by frying stretched dough flavoured with ghee (clarified butter). Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, roti prata is usually served with fish or mutton curry and hits all the spot every time.

(Please note: Trishaws are subject to availability. Vehicle transfer to Little India if trishaws are unavailable.)

Take a train or bus back back to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure before embarking on a culinary journey this evening.

This evening’s tour begins 18:00 at a popular local food centre. Find a seat among this local foodie’s paradise.

First, tuck in to a refreshing craft beer from various parts of the world - watch scenes of locals everyday lives - and if up for it, buy some snacks from the local stalls (A pint of craft beer is included but additional food is at guests own cost.)

Then, walk over to the famous Buddha Tooth Relic Temple in the beautiful evening light and see the senior locals wind down the day with a game of chinese chess. This is a great photo opportunity and chance to interact with the locals.

Learn about the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and stroll through its amazing interior if desired.

Then take a short walk to the famous Chinatown Food Street. Along the way, see a variety of stalls selling unique souvenirs and purchase some to bring home if desired.

Stay for dinner at Chinatown Food Street. Choose from the variety of street food ranging from chicken satay, barbecue seafood delights and local beers. (Please note: Food and standard drinks are included. Beers will be at guests own cost.)  

After having a fill with dinner, head off for a cooling bowl of local dessert. Choose from flavours like mango shaved ice, chendol (coconut and palm sugar dessert) or for the adventurous, durian flavoured desserts.

Around 10pm, take a train or bus back to the hotel or continue to explore the nightlife of bustling Chinatown.

Historical Civic District Walking Tour

At 10:00 this morning be met by the guide and go on a walking tour around Singapore’s historic civic district.

Begin at the National Gallery of Singapore. Take the elevator up to the 5th floor for a panoramic view of Singapore’s iconic old and new sites like the Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade, Singapore Flyer and more. Learn about the importance of the historical importance of the City Hall, overlooking the Padang and the Cricket Club.  Next visit the Supreme Court Wing. Marvel at the amazing architecture and panels of the building from the concourse. Then visit the country’s old supreme court where old Chief Justices sat and held trials. The architecture has been amazingly restored and preserved. Visit the old holding cells at the back of the Supreme Court Foyer and learn about some of the stories behind Singapore law and order.

Next, cross over to visit the Arts House (the old Parliament House of Singapore). Take the stairs up to the second floor and view the parliamentary seatings of Singapore founding ministers - their name plates are still on the seats!

Then, visit the Victoria Concert Hall, the former entertainment hub of old Singapore. Go to level 3 and learn all about the story behind this hall.

Then pass the statues of the main founders of Singapore - Sang Nila Utama and Sir Stamford Raffles. Learn about their significance in finding modern and thriving Singapore.

Next, stop to cool off with a local ice kopi / teh or lime juice. If lucky, see the local ice-cream man selling traditional ice-cream flavours with wafers and bread.

Please note - guests will have to pay additional costs should they want to enter and see the Asian Civilisation Museum to see the main exhibition.

Refreshed, cross the Cavenagh Bridge to the Fullerton Hotel. Once the General Post Office, this building’s architecture has been carefully restored in a world renowned hotel today.

Take the underpass to learn more about the history of the Fullerton Hotel before arriving at the Merlion Park. A mythical creature created to promote tourism in Singapore - learn all about it’s beginnings and how it has become the icon of Singapore today.

Finish the tour at 14:00 and take a train or bus back to the hotel or spend the afternoon exploring the area where there are some lunch options around. (At own cost)
