So, you’re in Thailand, experienced all the country has to offer and received her warmth and hospitality. Ever wonder how things are like in a Thai household? All we can say is that the family in our Mae Kampong Homestay tour are gracious hosts and are very much looking forward to your visit.

So, where is Mae Kampong by the way? It is in the north of Thailand, approximately 30 kilometers from Thailand’s second biggest city, Chiang Mai. The area is largely dominated by agriculture; crops such as rice, coffee and tea are grown here. The environment here is lush and pretty, mainly due to its forested hill terrain.

The village you are about to stay in is nestled in a 1300 meter high hill so cool weather is a guarantee no matter what part of the year you decide to come. But before you make your way to your homestay, stop by a local market and pick up some ingredients. This will be your dinner tonight.

True to Thai hospitality you’ve experienced throughout the country, the villagers will be waiting to greet you once you reach Mae Kampong. Then, take a stroll through the community forest, passing tea and coffee fields and finally to a refreshing waterfall where a delicious picnic lunch will be served. After lunch, prepare for another meal. That’s right, dinner will be coming up. But not before a relaxing traditional Thai massage session. And maybe a little downtime later on. After that, grab the ingredients you bought earlier and prepare the food with your host family. Nothing like home cookin’, eh?

A hot breakfast will be served with your hosts while you watch the morning mist being swept away from the valley by the cool mountain wind. Keeping this cool morning image in mind, enjoy a stroll around the village and see the processing of fermented tea leaves and various products which are hand-made in the village.

Head back toward Chiang Mai stopping on the way at Sankampaeng hotsprings, a popular recreation area for locals. The water has a temperature in excess of 100 degrees centigrade with high sulphur content. It is believed to contain curative and restorative properties and attempts have even been made to harness this and the water’s energy!

If you are in and around Chiang Mai and would really like a taste of authentic Thai village life, then this tour is the cure for you. You can even extend this stay beyond the two allocated days. How? By contacting us.
