There isn’t a place quite like Laos. In fact, there isn’t a place quite like Southern Laos. If you thought the country was laid back and relaxing, well, try out the south. It is even more subdued! Tranquil and serene, this sparsely populated part of the country is the perfect destination for those who love exploring nature. Or for those who just need to engage in a little more simple living. Perfect for those who need to escape the bustle of work and the big city.
The nature tour starts right off the bat. Head up the beloved Boloven Platueu, home to cool winds, some of the greatest Laos coffee and of course the waterfalls, especially Tad Fane where the water drops to the pools below at 120 meters.
One, two, three, four…four thousand. Never mind the counting, just head over there! This is the 4000 Island archipelago we are talking about. Here the Mekong opens up to tons of islets. Head over to Don Daeng and receive your baci, an Animist ceremony that will bring you luck for this trip.
And now a little history. Wat Phou will provide that, along with an impressive ruined sceneray. This is an Angkorian temple, built sometime in the 11th century. Spend the afternoon visiting local Lao villages, riding an elephant through beautiful jungles, and enjoying the diverse wildlife of Southern Laos.
Continue exploring the 4000 Island archipelago. Rent out a bike and bask in this soothing atmosphere. Who’d ever thought simple living like this actually exists? If you want to find that needle in the haystack, keep an eye out for the Irrawaddy Dolphin, a rare specimen indeed. However, they are known to pop out of the Mekong waters once in a while. Another activity you can do under this laid back air is – nothing. We won’t blame you if you choose this option. It is quite understandable. Just relax……..
