Local Creative Community Experience
- Full Day
Be picked from the hotel at 08:00. Go discover another local and eco-community of Chiang Mai where authentic local lifestyle and local creativity happen to be a good match. Developed as a creative industry village, “Ontai Community” is represented as a learning centre as well as a storytelling village, fully well-woven with many interesting stories along the route. From the organic farming story to ancient aged temples, local wisdom knowledge to fun DIY craft activity, the community has it all.
Once arrival at the community, check in at Ontai Organic Farm, be welcomed and greeted by a local guide and be served with a refreshing herbal drink. The local guide introduces a brief story of the farm and the village, and be welcomed to take part in an “anyone can grow organic veggies” activity. Learn how to grow and plant organic vegetables, collect a few local vegetables and herbs, and use them fresh in the cooking activity set up in the “From Farm to Table” style. Then sit down and enjoy delicious own cooked lunch.
After getting stomach full, it is time for a village and activity tour. Hop on a local style truck and make a few interesting stops along the way. First go to a local silk weaving centre and learn how the tie-dye fabric has been produced. Instead of just observing, have fun doing a DIY natural tie-dye activity. Then pay a visit to the village’s oldest temple with over 500-year old chedi, and if lucky, observe a local ceramic and pottery maker doing his work, his work station is situated in the temple ground. Also, visit a holy mineral well and discover a superstitious story behind.
The day ends at a local Chiang Mai Art Museum by a group of local artists from the community. Art exhibitions are varied, depending on the themes. Take a seat for a rest at a local art café nearby (note: drinks or snacks at own expense) before embarking on a private transport back to the hotel. (L)
