Come face-to-face with Asian elephants at Patara Elephant Farm. Spend a half-day with elephant caretakers, assisting as they feed and bathe the mighty beasts. Cap off the adventure with a jungle ride on the back of one of the elephants.

Live the Life of a Mahout
- Half Day
You will be picked up at 13:00. Encounter Asian elephants at the Patara Elephant Farm. Travel to the edge of Doi Suthep National Park and meet with a Patara staff. Hear about the Farm’s efforts to conserve the elephants’ natural habitats and to revive Thailand’s elephant population.
Then, amid this beautiful setting, the adventure begins. Spend a few hours being a ‘mahout’, an elephant caretaker. Change into a mahout outfit and take a short walk to meet with the elephants. Alongside a real mahout, learn how to approach the elephants and judge their temperament. After gaining the trust of the animals, get a bit closer to feed them. Be amazed as their trunks skilfully scoop up food.
After eating, join the mahouts as they bathe the elephants, helping the animals cool off and cleanse their thick skin. Having bonded with the elephant and gained its trust, climb onto top and ride bareback through the rice paddies and forest to a beautiful waterfall. Enjoy the views from on high as the elephant slowly lumbers down dirt tracks.
Return to the main farm and bid farewell to the elephants and mahouts. Travel back to Chiang Mai with a camera-full of memories from this unique animal encounter.
