Head to the outskirts of town and pedal onwards to Wiang Khum Kham. Dating back to the 13th century, this ancient city was buried under mud for years and ‘forgotten’ until its excavation in the 1980s. Pedal around the city’s ruins and visit an ancient temple believed to house the king’s spirit.
Return to Chiang Mai and pass through Tha Pae Gate, the entrance of the historic old town. Pay a visit to Somphet market, a popular fresh market, and browse the stalls of fresh herbs and spices. Learn how these ingredients are used in Thai cooking and snap photos of the colourful displays.
