Overview
Be immersed in Thai culture by learning about traditional etiquette and design. Before beginning, put on traditional Thai-style pants ‘jongkrabane’ Once that’s done, the workshop is ready to begin. Start off by learning basic Thai etiquette. This includes gestures like paying respects to a monk, sitting and doing the ‘wai’ the proper way. Next, get into the basics of Thai design by practicing on simple designs such as flowers, flames and the lion emblem found on the popular local brew. By the end of the tour, receive a brocade-bound book as souvenir. It’s a great remembrance to such a unique Thai experience.
Itinerary
MEALS [ L ]
Thai Etiquette (Marayaat): Learn how to move and act within Thai society. Study the proper way of doing the ‘wai’ (Thai greeting), how to sit, stand and greet an elder or a monk. Also, learn how to give and receive gifts.
Thai Design (Lai Thai): Learn how to draw by starting on a few basic designs such as the flower patterns found in temples eaves and the lion emblem on the Thai beer Singha. After practicing, receive a brocade-bound book which contains the final design to draw the final design. First, they outline the design in pencil, then trace the pattern in natural glue, and finally gently lay gold leaf over the glue, leaving the final design in gold. This is the traditional way that artisans created Thai designs. Take the brocade-bound book home as souvenir.
