MEALS [ L ]
Having lived in Laos since 2007, Francis restored this old residence that was once inhabited by Thit Keo Ta, whose name literally translates to The Honourable Crystal Eyes which means someone who has clear judgement. Thit Keo Ta used to spend three months of Buddhist Lent in this very simple pavilion to meditate and take part in the ceremonies with the monks next door. This property is also next to an old and peaceful village called Ban Muang Khai and a monastery.
After completing the landscaping, restoration of the old meditation pavilion and construction of new buildings in the Lao colonial style, Francis moved into this house in 2012. He has been living there permanently since, devoting a large part of his retirement life to the embellishment of the large garden overlooking the Mekong. This quiet retreat was also a favourable environment for writing several of his books and articles about Luang Prabang town which he frequents quite often.
Having great taste in arts and experience in local architecture, Francis, who once worked for UNESCO has created his ideal paradise along the mighty Mekong. Passionate by nature, he is also dedicated to his diversified garden, and will most certainly show guests around. Lunch is served at Francis’s place with ingredients from the garden.
Once done, a boat will be waiting at his private pier for a cruise back to town. Enjoy the riverine sighting before coming back to Luang Prabang. If there is a chosen hotel by the Mekong, the boat can conveniently stop there. (L)
