This morning be met by the guide and driver at the hotel at 08:00 and be transferred to the morning market. Meet Chef Somsack in front of the Vat Mai Temple.
Chef Somsack is the executive chef at the Blue Lagoon Restaurant — one of the few restaurants in Luang Prabang to offer excellent laotian cuisine, as well as a creative menu of fusion insect dishes. For him, showing the morning market scene is the true canvas of daily local life, where there are all the required ingredients to create authentic dishes. This is where the locals buy their vegetables, herbs as well as cooked meals.
Get ready for a morning discovery of the secrets of Lao culinary culture!
Follow Chef Somsack where he will introduce you to the best khaosoi Luang Prabang style noodle soup, moo naem, mix minced pork with roasted sticky rice, the Luang Prabang sausage or cheow ging, ginger peanut sauce Luang Prabang style, as well as some local desserts. Going from stall to stall, he will explain the names and functions of each herbs and spices. Don’t hesitate to touch, smell and taste!
Continue to the rice section, where many varieties and colours of rice will be seen. Walk over to the fish section, where there is usually the impressive fresh Mekong Catfish on sale.
On arrival at the cooked food section, each dish will be explained on how it was cooked and what is inside. Many of these dishes are seasonal and can include exotic ingredients such as edible flowers, fish eggs, bamboo shoots, young ferns etc.
Buy some of these fresh and unique dishes and have a seat in the middle of the market for lunch with Chef Somsack. This little stall also offers delicious local coffee and juices!
