Discover the delicate art of Thai puppetry with a visit to the Joe Louis Thai Puppet Theatre. With the art form having virtually died out in Thailand, the theatre is testimony to the efforts of the late Sakorn Yangkhieosod, who revived this ancient art.

Thai Theatrical Puppetry Masterclass
- Half Day
You will be picked up at 12:00 to start the masterclass with a VIP van transfer to the famous studio of Nattayasala Hun Lakhon Lek, internationally known as the ‘Joe Louis Thai Puppet Theatre’.
Visit the artist’s working space and explore the fundamentals of traditional Thai puppet theatre. Learn about different characters like Hanuman the monkey god, and see the different elements of tradition and functionality come into play. Learn how to put on a jong kraben ”, the comfortable Thai loincloth, worn at performances during the old times. Have a laugh and sing the famous Thai song ‘Lao Duang Duen’, during a casual karaoke session.
Observe and imitate the basics of Thai classical dance, as performed by the professional puppeteers. Under tutelage of the professionals, carefully reproduce the moves of the puppets. Receive an adorable little Hanuman puppet at the end of the workshop.
