After sampling sweet fruits, drive onwards to Wat Bang Phra. This temple is an important pilgrimage site for devout Buddhists who come to receive tattoos from the resident monks. These works of art are believed to provide strength and protection to whomever is inked. Depending on the day there may be a chance to speak with the tattoo master.
Then it’s on to Lampaya floating market (note: during the week, Don Wai will be visited instead). This
market is a centre of trade for fruits and vegetables as well as non-agricultural products such as rattan ware and dyed cotton. Local food like noodles with beef, Thai desserts, and steamed curried fish patties, are sold by local vendors who cook and serve the food from their boats. Be sure to have the camera batteries fully charged- this is a great place to snap colourful photos of local life.
Take a break for lunch then continue to Jesada Museum. Not found in most guidebooks, this museum boasts an impressive collection of antique cars from around the world. From the classics to some more unusual vehicles, this is an interesting visit and unexpected treat.
The Bangkok village tour comes to a close with a visit to Phra Pathom Chedi. This impressive monument is the tallest stupa in the world, soaring to a height of 127 metres (417 feet). After gazing upon this imposing stupa, return to Bangkok by road. (L)
