Continue walking along the riverfront area. The atmosphere at this time of day is particularly lively, with city residents gathering along the wide promenade to exercise or enjoy a picnic with friends.
See locals engaging in group aerobics or forming circles playing sei pen (“shuttlecock kicking” in English). Sei pen is the most popular folk traditional game enjoyed today. Originally made of animal feathers and dry skin or fish scales in a series of discs, most are made of plastic nowadays. Joining in is always welcomed, as Cambodian’s love to play with visitors.
Head over to a riverside rooftop restaurant for cocktails or mocktails while enjoying the sunset and the views of the river and neighbouring Wat Ounalom. Then hop into a remork (a Cambodian tuk tuk) and join the locals in the bustling street traffic.
The next stop is a popular riverside restaurant with a charming atmosphere and welcoming Khmer hospitality. Try some delectable local cuisine while watching boats float by on the Tonle Sap River.
After enjoying the meal, hop back in the tuk tuk and take a spin around town, stopping at the Independence Monument for a photo opportunity and past the glitzy casino lights on the way to Diamond Island. (D)
