Yeah, let’s go to the beach! If you love to soak yourself in ocean water, lie around on the sand, swim in beachside resort swimming pools, dive, snorkel, basically anything to do with the beach, well you’re in the right place. Southeast Asia is a haven for beaches! So, bring your swimsuit, suntan lotion and underwater gear because you’re in for a special tropical beach experience!
So, what does Thailand have for us? Lots! Let’s first start with the low-key, but still much sought after destination. This is Hua Hin, Bangkokians’ favorite escape. And it’s hard to find a reason not to go. It is just two and a half hours from the capital, the beaches are quite laid back and the town exudes a lazy atmosphere, nice for chilling out. Also near Bangkok is Koh Samed. About three hours east of Bangkok, the island is one of Thailand’s most tranquil. And a great place to swim and dive as well.
Head on south to Koh Jum. The beauty about this island is that it is relatively small, is quiet and with almost no cars or paved roads to speak of. If you prefer a slow pace of island living, then look no further! Another slow pace island option is Koh Lipe. Highlights include beautiful beaches, turquoise blue ocean waters and colorful marine life. Dive or snorkel in the waters of Tarutao National Marine Park. Sounds exciting! Last but not least, we have Khao Lak. And what to expert here? Hhmm. How about another Thai beach with white sands, warm blue waters and a diversity of marine life.
Let’s now head over to Cambodia. Sihanoukville is the country’s most popular beach resort town. And it is hard to argue against that claim. With white sandy beaches and clear blue waters, it is a nice place to kick back and relax after a wonderful round of temple touring in Siem Reap. Kep is also another option, which should appeal to those seeking for an undiscovered beach destination. Quiet beaches, delicious seafood and a laid back ambiance should relax your mind and body. And not far from both Kep and Sihanoukville is Ream National Park. Discover some of Cambodia’s flora and fauna with treks and leisure time headquartered from your very own luxury tent.
Off to Vietnam and her selection of beaches. First, let’s take a look at Hoi An. It is a UNESCO Heritage Town and if you ever wonder how Vietnam looked like 200 years ago, then Hoi An is the town for it. A good mix of history and beach leisure awaits. For a Vietnamese island experience, we highly recommend Phu Quoc. Spend your days by the beach, in the water swimming or snorkeling or head out local villages where the way of life has remained unchanged for generations.
And now Myanmar. This humble country is coming out with a huge bang! And within its borders lie the much sought after Ngapali. Very idyllic (don’t forget, Myanmar is one of the less visited in Southeast Asia) with elegant white sand and warm azure waters to match. Can’t go wrong here!
